Capital Planning Initiative (CPI)

The Capital Planning Initiative (CPI) is part of the Government of Alberta's overall Business plan for funding for public projects. WMO, through the Capital Planning Team, participates in the Capital Planning Initiative (CPI).

CPI objectives are to develop and recommend funding priorities, and to ensure effective and efficient planning and funding to water management infrastructure.

CPI activities include:

  • Management reporting
  • Project prioritization
  • Developing performance measure for the infrastructure management system
  • Strategic assessment

Overall results of the Capital Planning Initiative (CPI) are:

  • Optimization of funds for physical infrastructure
  • Better management of infrastructure
  • Informed decision based on measurable data
  • Improved sharing of ideas and information
  • Strengthening of the partnership between Alberta Environment and Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation for effective and efficient management of water infrastructure
