Milk River Basin Preliminary Feasibility Study

Fact Sheet | FAQs | Terms of Reference | Milk River Basin Map

A preliminary feasibility study to investigate on-stream and off-stream water storage options in Alberta’s Milk River Basin is being undertaken by Klohn Crippen Consultants Ltd.

The study will identify environmental issues and costs associated with the water storage options, such as enhancing existing water bodies, diversions, reservoirs and dams. The study will not make any recommendations/conclusions.

The preliminary feasibility study was submitted to Alberta Environment for review in January 2004. The results of this study will allow Alberta Environment to make an informed recommendation to the government on how, or if, to proceed. It is anticipated that Alberta Environment will make a decision by Fall 2004.

Public Consultation
In March 2003, Albertans provided their input to the consultant during public meetings in Lethbridge and Milk River. This report summarizes the two public consultation meetings.
