Online Surface Water Quality Data

Alberta Environment tests the water quality of various surface waters - rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands - across the province. All water quality data are stored in a central Water Database System and are available upon request. Through the Alberta Water Information Centre, some of the most frequently requested surface water quality data are now available on-line.

If you would like to obtain other surface water quality data, please contact swq.requests@gov.ab.ca

You will be asked a number of questions, which will help refine your request:

  • Name of water-body or basin of interest
  • Period of record (e.g., last five years, all historic data)
  • Variables of interest (e.g., nutrients, metals, organics, etc.)

Data will be supplied in an Excel spreadsheet.

Information on the various attributes and uses of water in Alberta can be found by searching the Alberta Environment website. Some specific links and contact information are listed below.
