Alberta has been a leader in waste management
practices and policies since it created Canada’s first
Environment department in 1971.
Over the past 20 years, rapid population and economic
growth have increased the pressure on Alberta’s waste
infrastructure.
Albertans have told us this is an important issue that requires
progressive action. As a result, we are reassessing the province’s
overall strategies for waste management.
This website provides an overview of Alberta’s waste
production, infrastructure and management strategies.
