Grants and FundingThe Resource Recovery Grant Program has been in place since 1976, providing grants to municipalities to develop a resource recovery/recycling infrastructure. There are over 100 municipalities currently operating recycling programs in the province. Note: Resource Recovery Grant Program under review. Applications are no longer being accepted. The Waste Management Assistance Program has been providing technical and financial assistance to groups of municipalities to address their waste management needs. Assistance covers regional waste management planning studies and up to 75 per cent of capital and engineering costs associated with the design and construction of regional waste management systems including regional sanitary landfills, waste transfer stations and related waste diversion facilities. Since the program's inception in 1976, 34 regional waste management systems have been completed in Alberta and another seven are being developed. Note: Waste Management Assistance Program under review. Applications are no longer being accepted. |
