State of the Environment Reporting State of the Environment reports are produced in various forms by federal, provincial and local jurisdictions throughout Canada and around the world. At the national level, Environment Canada works on State of the Environment reporting and environmental indicators. Click here to visit the federal State of the Environment Infobase website. Most Canadian provinces produce State of the Environment reports or environmental indicator reports. Although these reports follow a similar approach to State of the Environment reporting, they vary in length, complexity and how often they are published. Alberta's State of the Environment Reports According to the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Alberta's Minister of Environment is required to report on the state of Alberta's environment. The definition of "environment" is very broad, so information from many other Alberta Government departments and other sources is included in Alberta's State of the Environment reports. Alberta's first comprehensive report was produced in 1994. Several theme reports followed. In addition, a number of State of the Environment fact sheets were produced, discussing a range of environmental subjects. The website you are visiting represents a shift away from lengthy, descriptive reports to a dynamic online information source focusing on environmental indicators and up-to-date information.
