More about the Air Quality Index

The Air Quality Index is a numerical value that describes the quality of the outdoor air in Alberta. The index is based on the concentration of the following five major pollutants: carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and sulphur dioxide. Hourly concentrations of these pollutants are used to calculate the Air Quality Index. This value is converted into four air quality categories - Good, Fair, Poor and Very Poor.
